The automatic tension belt drive and toothed gearing is a new type mechanism. In order to satisfy the working safety and optimize the structural parameters, based on the force equilibrium equation, taking the relia- bility of belt drive as main constraint condition, the minimum number of belts and the minimum volume of gears as objective function, the device is designed by using reliability optimization design method. By using this method, a group of optimum structure parameters will be obtained rapidly and the reliability of belt drive can be ensured simul- taneously. This method is advanced. The design speed and quality are both improved greatly. An effect design method is proposed for the new type transmission.
