An automatic quantitative analysis on the shape of barefoot impressions is performed by setting up an aligned coordinate system for each footprint and locating uniform landmarks for it, and precise shape measurements are provided for barefoot impressions using computational geometry method. Besides common geometric measurements such as distances and angles, a new measurement of average curvature energy defined for boundary curve segment is included in the set to describe curve feature. Distinguishability and stability of each feature parameter extracted form the footprint outlines in this study are analyzed based on variance theory as a reference for feature selection.
