This article mainly talk about optical disc and its family which are used as important materials that record and preserve information. Optical disc technology has been developed in a high speed since 1970s. The optical disc family members＇names, codes, applications, standards, compatibility are so different, which often makes users as well as researcher puzzle. The authors try to analysis and solve the problem in three aspects, in order to make it easier to be understood and used.
