Over the past years, several metal - catalyzed （ nickel, palladium, rhodium, ferrumiron and copper） and Lewis acid - catalyzed ring - cleaving reactions have been developed that generate ring - opened products in high yield and enantiomeric excess. The methodologies have been used in the total syntheses of several biologically interesting molecules,such as estrone analogous.
