The nematode Caenorabditis elegans （C. elegans） is a unique whole animal model which has been widely used as a host model for drugs in vivo study in recent years. There are many technical advantages of C. elegans, such as its small size, short life circle and easy culture. The development of the studies of microbial pathogenesis and antimicrobial discovery using C.elegans-based assays have mainly been discussed in this paper. C. elegans may turn out to be a powerful tool for antimicrobial drug discovery and other applications in the future.
