The modification of mesoporous silica materials to impart them with a wide range of functionalities promising for various applications is the focus of the inorganic materials research. The present review outlines the recent progress of the mesoporous silica-based gas adsorbents. The adsorption process of carbon dioxide and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) on the mesoporous adsorbents is discussed in detail. The factors that influence the adsorption of review also discusses the impact of the meso-structure of the silica on the adsorption of VOCs. Future developments of the mesoporous gas adsorbents are highlighted
