This article studied the internal motivational process of work family conflict from the perspective of self - determination theory (SDT). Investigation of 173 managers from four cities indicated that, work -interference -family (WIF) was the greatest one, significantly greater than family - interference - work (FIW) ; self - determination motivation of family activities significantly influenced WIF ; self - determination motivation of work activities significantly influenced FIW ; self - determination motivation of both family and work activities significantly influenced work-family conflict; significant others like spouse and supervisor had significant influence on self- determination motivation of both family and work activities.
