Incidence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease （ NAFLD ） is increasing yearly in recently years, and has become one of the serious global public health problems. The mechanical barrier, chemi- cal barrier, immune barrier, and biological barrier are not independent but closely related. Damage of the intestinal barrier may lead to NAFLD,which will inversely affect the intestinal barrier function when developing to a certain stage, resulting in mutual influence and a vicious cycle. Here is to make a review on the intestinal mucosal barrier in the pathogenesis of NAFLD mainly from four aspects of the mechan- ical barrier, chemical barrier, immune barrier, and biological barrier.
