Settlement deformation often happens on large steel tanks constructed on soft groundwork, in which the influence of uneven settlement around tank wall is the most detrimental for tank structure. By analyzing the finite element parameters of floating-roof tapered tanks under harmonic settlement, the effects of the major geometric parameters of tapered tank (including wall variable parameters, wind girder stiffness, radius-to-thickness ratio and height-to-radius ratio) on tank structure deformation and stress are discussed. Finally, compare of structure behavior of tapered tank and uniform tanks under harmonic settlement is also carried out.
