SKll5 spring fasteners for high-speed railway encountered cracking in actual use. Cause of the cracking was analyzed by macro and micro scope observation, hardness test, metallurgical test, chemical analysis combined with the finite element simulation analysis. The results show that the cracks of the spring fasteners have obvious transgranular features, the cracking characteristic belongs to bending- torsional fatigue cracking, the surface of spring fasteners exist decarburization layer and local surface defects, the cracks originate from the surface of the spring fasteners. The main reason for cracking is the local stress concentration produced under alternating stress, and the formation of fatigue cracks due to poor surface condition is another important reason for the fracture.
