The new sugarcane cultivar Yunzhe05-51 was developed by Yunnan Sugarcane Research Institute, Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It is characterized with early maturity, high cane yield and sugar yield, good self-trashing and good ratooning ability. In both national sugarcane regional trial and demonstration trial, the average cane yield was 101.23 tons per hectare, which was 0.43% and 7.59% higher than ROC22 and ROC16 respectively; the average sugar content from November to next March was 14.92%, which was 0.07 and 0.33 percent point higher than ROC22 and ROC16 respectively. Moreover, Yunzhe05-51 is highly resistant to Smut, moderately resistant to Mosaic and drought.
