The basic reaction theory of nanosized powders synthesized by the vapor phase method is given. The form of nuclear, control particle diameter and nanoparticle aggregation are summarized. The preparation techniques and progress are sorted by the different states(solid, liquid, gas) of precursors, and the characteristics of each method are summarized. The characters of vapor-phase synthesis of nanostructured materials are important, which relate to small particles, no-agglomeration and without treatment after formation. Now, it has been the main method of preparing nanoparticles. With the development of technology and advancement of material, the industry of vapor-phase synthesis of nanostructured materials will have a good future.
