This article addresses conflicts and problems that have arisen between products marketed by cooperatives and middlemen. Middlemen have played an important employment role and a role in current rural markets connecting peasants, peddlers and independent firms. But since middlemen pursue their own self interest, middlemen have some connection with deceptive business practices and in hiding truth from peasants. There are three suitable methods to handle the conflicts that arise between middlemen and cooperatives. First, cooperative leaders should go immediately to properly register with the local Industrial/Commercial Administration to become a legal entity. Second, when conflicts arise between cooperatives and middlemen, cooperatives should seek the support of their village committee and Party Branch, and use the resources of these organizations to establish a dominant position to resolve conflicts and to keep problems from intensifying. Third, at the same time that cooperatives reduce their small private rural economic behavior they also can change the behavior of middlemen to create the conditions for an orderly rural scene.
