The increasing use of fast growing tropical hardwoods has led to a significant tendency of vessel picking in offset printing. The properties of the hardwood vessel elements were introduced. The mechanism and fundamentals of the vessel picking were discussed. The so- lutions to vessel picking were presented, including raw material selection, refining, fractionation by hydrocyclone, surface sizing and enzyme treatment methods.
