Now he is a PhD student in Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China. His research interests are in image retrieval, machine learning, pattern recognition, and computer vision. x.tan@nuaa.edu.cn,Xiaoyang Tan received his BS and MS de- grees in computer applications from Nan- jing University of Aeronautics and Astro- nautics （NUAA）, China in 1993 and 1996, respectively. Then he worked at NUAA in June 1996 as an assistant lecturer. He re- ceived a PhD degree from Department of Computer Science and Technology of Nanjing University, China in 2005. From September 2006 to October 2007, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the LEAR （Learning and Recognition in Vision） team at INRIA Rhone- Alpes in Greno- ble, France. His research interests are in face recognition, machine learning, pattern recognition, and computer vision. In these fields, he has authored or coauthored over 40 scientific papers.
