Two carboxylate-bridged Cu ( I ) complexes, Cu2 (3a-phth) 2(bpy) 2 . CH3OH (1) (3a-phth2- = 3-aminophthalate) and [Cu2 (3n-phth)2 (bpy)2] [Cu (3n-phth) (bpy)]2. H2O (2) (3n-phth2-= 3-nitrophthalate) have been synthesized and characterized structurally and mag- netically. Structural determination shows that complex 1 contains two mononuclear Cu( Ⅱ ) units doubly bridged by twoμ2-O atoms from two carboxylate groups. In complex 2, a Similar dinuclear Cu ( I ) complex and a one-dimensional Cu (I ) helical chain connected by μ1,3-carboxylate groups, form a supramolecular structure via intermolecular interactions. Complex 1 exhibits ferromagnetic properties. On the basis of the Hamiltonian/Q = - 2JScu1Scu2 , the magnetic susceptibilities of complex 1 were fitted giving the magnetic coupling constant of J 0.82(7) cm-1.
