A new quaternary vanadogennanate compound (H3deta)4Ge8V14S8O42·H2O was synthesized under hydrothemml condi- tions and characterized by means of IR spectrum, TG, single X-ray and PXRD diffraction. The X-ray crystallography indicated the crystal crystallized in a telxagonal lattice, P-4m2 space group, afb=0.9933(6) nm, c =2.3661(15) ran, α =β=γ=90°, V= 2.335(2) nm-3, Z =8, Rt =0.0803, wR2 =0.2288. The structure of the compound showed a 2D layer skeleton paraUel to the (001) plane, which was constructed by the interconnection of [ Ge8V14S8O42 ]^12- clusters through sharing common comers, the di- ethylenetriamine (deta) molecules with positive charges were filled into the space between skeletons to balance the negative charges of the structure.
