At the end of 2012 year,the authors found and shot the Mergus squamatus in the shoal patch of Qijiang River,a tributary of the Yangtze River,in Jiangjin area of Chongqing.A preliminary investigation on the activities and behavior of the M.squamatus were performed.This is the first time to report and record the M.squamatus in Chongqing area using the scientific literature method.The present study is very important to investigate the ecological habit of the M.squamatus and protect them,explore the change of natural environment in Three Gorges Reservoir Area and the wintering ground environment of migratory birds.
