A novel approach for developing knowledge maps, which is called as data driven knowledge map, is proposed in order to build knowledge maps for data-intensive and data-sensitive app}ications based on making a deep investigation of current knowledge map technologies. Then, core principles, main characteristics, a basic framework, key technologies and applications are described. Final- ly, the work is validated by a case study.
