Mobile visual search has become one of the influential supporting technologies for the future mobile world. In this article, we introduce a few technical challenges in mobile visual search, discuss some key technologies including compact visual descriptors, visual search pipeline, interoperability of visual search applications and databases. The standardization progress in compact descriptors for visual search is discussed, and the significance of building up the large- scale structured visual object dataset is proposed as well
