In this article, the microstructures of white middle layer and cosmetic earth of porcelains, which were from Yaozhou kiln in Tang, Five Dynasty and North Song dynasties, were analyzed contrastively by different microscopes. Under stereomicroscope a white thin layer could be seen, but under polarized light microscopy cosmetic earth could be seen while middle layer could not. These phenomena were closely related to their chemical components and formation mechanism.
