As a new class of environment-friendly solvents, ionic liquids （ILs） can be used to replace the traditional organic solvents because of its unique properties, which has attracted much attention. In this paper the application of ILs in preparaing mesoporous materials where the role of ILs is being as solvents, co-templates or templates respectively are reviewed. In addition, the trend and focal point of the application of ILs in preparaing mesoporous materials are also introduced and prospected.
