Objective This is a preliminary study in which we try to analyze the movements of facial markers which we set around the Rima Oris quantitatively in ocular predominantly facial expressions, and try to find out the influencing factors. Methods Twenty two healthy volunteers, aged from 45 to 60 years, took part in this study. A 3-D dynamic quantitative analy-sis system of facial motion (3-D ASFM) based on motion capture technique was used. Maximum moving distance (Smax) and maximum velocity (Vmax) were measured to describe facial movements associated with eyebrow rasing and tight eye shut. Re-sults 1. In eyebrow raising, Smax and Vmax of the eyebrow marker were 9.75 mm and 24.11mm/s on left and 10.14mm and 25.87mm/s on right. For associated movements, Vmax of the“nasolabial groove”marker was greater (left:60.60 mm/s;right:62.70 mm/s) than other markers (23.11-25.73 mm/s). The Smax of these 6 markers were 3.65-4.46 mm. Linear correlation between the Smax and Vmax among the“corner of the mouth”,“nasolabial groove”and“eyebrow”markers. 2. In tight eye shut, Smax and Vmax of the“angulus oculi medialis”were smaller (left:1.33 mm and 13.29 mm/s;right:1.46 mm and 14.64 mm/s, respecxtively), while those of the”palpebra superior”were greater (left:10.56 mm and 87.68 mm/s;right:10.54 mm and 81.83 mm/s), than other markers (5.73-8.36 mm, 53.31-63.03 mm/s). The Smax and Vmax of other markers were 1.58-1.92mm, 11.40-14.76 mm/s. There was no linear correlation between the Smax and Vmax of the“corner of mouth”,“nasolabi-al groove”and“palpebra superior”. Conclusions In healthy people, movement of mimetic muscles around the eye are associ-ated with movements of markers in other areas of the face, with similar timing in Smax and Vmax. In tight eye shut,“corner of the mouth”markers move faster and have longer moving distance than other facial markers. In“lifting eyebrows”, the“nasola-bial groove”moves faster than facial markers, although with sm
