Proteins are gene productions during gene regulation processes whereas periodic changes in their abundances are at the heart of important cellular processes. We classify gene oscillators as three classes : relaxation-type gene oscillators, regular gene oscillators and stochastic gene oscillators. We analyze their basic dynamics and show their different dynamical characteristics. For example, relaxation oscillators display jump dynamical behaviors, regular oscillators demonstrate limit-cycle behaviors, and stochastic oscillators show coherent resonance. Such a classification will play an important role of studying gene oscillators and their populations.
