The morbidity of chronic schistosomiasis in host is characterized by a marked egg-induced CD4+T-cell programmed cumulative hepatic fibrosis. It is not easy to form hepatic fibrosis in host when immune response is Th1-polarized.If immune response is Th2-polarized,the formation of hepatic fibrosis is common.Cytokines and costimulatory molecules play key roles in Th1/Th2 polarization, this paper reviews the effect of cytokines and costimulatory molecules on regulating Th1/Th2 polarization and their relation to schistosomiasis hepatic fibrosis.
