Construction with ruler and compasses is applied in the course of＂Basic Mechanical Design＂,which is out of step with the current computer drawing. Monotonous results can be avoided by differentiation requirements wheu using computer drawing and some suggestions on differentiation were given also. For 1-stage gear reducer design the workload is almost unchanged and the 2-stage gear reducer design significantly compressed when using computer aided design （CAD）. At the same time,the CAD software can be understand and the work adaptability for student can be increased by using CAD.
