To investigate the characteristics of biosorption of palladium ions, the effects of pH and ionic strength on biosorption by Providencia vermicola (P vermicola), and the changes of living bacteria and ion exchange during the process of Pd(Ⅱ) biosorption were studied. The results showed that pH and ionic strength influenced the adsorption capacity greatly. Biosorption of palladium on P vermicola biomass was accompanied with the non-stoichiometric releases of Mg, Ca and K ions into the reaction mixture. In addition, There was a weak relationship between activities of bacteria and biosorption, and most of the bacteria were dead during the process of biosorption.
