Porphyra is one of the most important marine algae with respect to both its economic value and unique biological characters that make Porphyra a model plant for research. Recently, the genetic research on Porphyra has made much progresss with the development of molecular biotechnology. In this paper, the application of molecular genetic markers and researches on genome of Porphyra are reviewed.
