A series of aliphatic diacetals or diketals（3a - 31） were synthesized by reflux of pentae- rythritol with aliphatic aldehydes or ketones using p-toluenesulfonic acid as the catalyst. 3,9-Dimeth- yl-3,9-dibutyl-2,4,8,10-tetraoxaspiro [ 5.5 ] undecane （ 3i ） and 3,7,11,15,18,21 -hexaoxatrispiro [5.2.2.512. 29. 24] henicosane （3k） were new compounds. The structures were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and ESI-MS.
