Laser Doppler Vibrometer is used as a non-contact and precision measurement in otology research for detecting vibration of the tympanic membrane, ossicular chain, cochlear promontory and basilar membrane. The results reflect the dynamic characteristics of each part and help evaluate sound-transmitting properties through the peripheral auditory system. Therefore the use of LDV is of great significance to increasing understanding of the influence of different pathologies on the auditory system, and to proper design and optimization of auditory reconstructive surgeries and listening assistance devices. It also has the potential of becoming an objective technique for intraoperative monitoring.
