The chemokine co-receptor has close relations to HIV- 1 infection. Binding to CD4 typically is followed by binding to either the CCR5 or CXCR4 co-receptor, which is required for fusion to proceed. The development of chemokine co-receptor may provide new tools to address this important pathogenesis question about HIV-1 infection.
