Bioartifieial liver and cell transplantation techniques require a liver cell bank. The liver cell bank will provide a large number of hepatocytes with high viability and fair function. Hepatocyte cryopreservation technology has become the key point to set up the bank, among which the research of cryoprotective agent is the most prospective one. In this review, the current status of eryoprotective agent for cryopreservation of hepatocytes is presented.
