In this paper, consortia and function of microbial community during composting are briefly described. In addition, preparation of microbes and the current status of application of microbial inoculation technology in composting are synthetically introduced. We also provide the introduction of denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis and other molecular microbial techniques. Finally, we review the trend of study on microbial agents.
