In this paper, the developmetn process of airborne light detection and ranging （LiDAR） technology and the domestic and foreign relevant techniques are introduced. Some foreign successful applications of airborne LiDAR technolotgy to marine surveys are emphatically introduced, the development trend of airborne LiDAR technology is revealed, and some suggestions for developing the LiDAR technology in China are made.
