Based on the daily observation data of solar radiation and sunshine duration from 2007 to 2011 in Guangzhou, the monthly global solar radiation, diffuse solar radiation, direct solar radiation and diurnal maximum total radiation irradiance of calendar year average value were calculated, the variation characteristics of solar radiation were analyzed, and thus, the empirical formula of monthly mean daily global radiation and daily global radiation was established in accordance with the Angstrom-Prescott model. The statistical error tests were run on the formula, using mean percentage error （MPE）, mean bias error （MBE） and root mean square error （RMSE）. The results show that the models can satisfy the requirements of engineering applications.
