Blood shear stress can induce the changes of biophysical, biochemical features and gene expression of the vessel endothelial cells, consequently modulate the structure and function of the endothelium. When the shear stress acted on the endothelial cells changes, gene expression of the cells would be induced. And some ordinary cardiovascular diseases might be aroused as a result. The research on the modulating mechanism of the shear stress on gene expression of the endothelial cells might be helpful to find the clinical ways to cure those diseases. The influence and the modulating mechanism on gene expression of the endothelial cells are reviewed in this article. The prospect of the applications in clinics, in construction of the small artificial blood vessels and the design of drugs are reviewed.
