Vasculogenic mimicry is a sort of novel blood-supplying pattern in mahgnant tumors, in which, some tumor ceils experience gene reversion, reconstitution and deformation, then interact with extracellular matrix, and finally form channels to supply blood and nutrients to malignant tumors such as melanoma. The molecular mechanism underlying the regulation of vasculogenic mimicry is complicated and unclear in malignant melanoma. Many regulatory proteins, such as vascular endothelial cadherin, laminin-5~/2, phosphoinositide 3-kinase and matrix metalloproteinases, participate in the formation of vasculogenic mimicry in malignant melanoma via their respective pathways, and most of them play a positive role in the biological behavior of malignant melanoma and affect the prognosis of patients.
