Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element. Autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITD) are destructive inflammatory or anti-receptor autoimmune diseases characterized by reactivity to self-thyroid antigens. However, the effects of Se on the cytokines in AITD are still unclear.
