Rapid development of science and technology requires much higher quality and more urgent demand of EST（English for Science and Technology） translation.Technical text,a kind of expository information text,lays more emphasis on the expression of meaning.Catford＇s Translation Shifts are grounded on the sacrifice of ＂formal correspondence＂,which,as a kind of translation strategy,attaches more importance to ＂semantic equivalence.＂This article mainly discusses the application of Catford＇s translation shifts to EST translation,in order to offer a brand-new perspective for the EST translation.
