This paper introduces the application of genetic algorithm in design of mechanical products.To solve the shortcomings that the traditional genetic algorithm code is too long in the solution of complex problems and the process of crossover and mutation operation is prone to energe lethal genes,the paper elaborates coding,fitness function and the design process of crossover and mutation operation,develops mechanical product design system based on genetic algorim,and the genetic algorithm and the design of the system has been applied,taking as an example the overall scheme design of NC lathe.
