4-( 3,4-Dihexylphenyl) -4-oxobut-2-enoic acid and 4-( 3,4-dioctylphenyl ) -4-oxobut-2-enoic acid were synthesized via coupling reaction of o-dichlorobenzene and 1-bromohexane /1-bromooctane and the subsequent Friedel-Crafts acylation with maleic anhydride in overall yields 59% and 42% , respectively. The structures of 4-( 3,4-dihexylphenyl ) -4oxobut-2-enoic acid and 4-( 3,4-dioctylphenyl ) -4-oxobut-2enoic acid were confirmed by NMR,IR and HRMS. After neutralization with sodium hydroxide,Furthermore,the interfacial tensions of sodium salts of compounds were measured.
