Objective To explore the expression of Neuropeptide Y （NPY） in the hippocampus of spontaneous epileptic rat（SER）. Methods The expression of NPY mRNA was detected by RT-PCR, the concentration of NPY protein was detected by ELISA kit in SER hippocampus. Results The expression level of NPY mRNA and the concentration of NPY protein in the hippocampus were much higher in spontaneous epileptic rat than in normal Wistar rats. Conclusion The overexpressed NPY in hippocampus might be involved in the pathogenesis of SER.
