The relationship of x charts and the allocation of sampling resources is studied when the quality characteristic is normally distributed.The efficiency of x control charts depends on both the sampling rates and the efficient allocation of sampling resources.Based on statistical properties and quality loss,the initial performance,the steady state performance and the optimization results of x charts show that,under the condition of the fixed sampling rate,one should take the samples of small size frequently for the large process mean shifts or large expectation of random shifts,and one can take the samples of large size with large sampling interval for the small shifts or small expectation of random shifts.
