Using appraisal system as its theoretical framework, this paper examines the different ways to construe attitudinal meanings in the original literary work of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its six simplified versions. It is found that the advanced-level adapted texts are more similar to the original text in terms of explicit/implicit expressions, attitudinal types and language structures, while the lower-level adapted texts often employ explicit means. The adapted texts may change the attitudinal type and degree through rewriting of the plot. The different adaptations are found to meet the need of the target readership.
