Focusing on the question that should the dominant role of the existing IP-based internet be totally replaced by a new one, clean-slate and evolution are two basic and opposite ways to the future network research was pointed out. A ＂partial replacement＂ strategy was proposed to integrate these two basic ways into an even more harmonious third way for the research of future network, which could change the internet architecture from a monistic structure into a dualistic structure.
