The human tissue kallikrein gene(KLK) plays a role in a variety of diseases,and participates in many pathophysiological processes,including blood pressure regulation and water-sodium metabolism,involved in inflammation and cardiovascular protective effects.KLK has multiple biological effects such as lowering blood pressure,improving insulin resistance,inhibiting cardiac and arterial remodeling,inhibiting smooth muscle cell proliferation,as well as the protective effects of ischemia-reperfusion injury.KLK gene might play anti-atherosclerotic effect,and might be a susceptible gene of coronary heart disease.Here is to make a review of the research status of KLK and cardiovascular disease.
