An approach for the calculation of the worst-case dispersion penalty of multimode fiber links was derived. The approach is expressed by 10 %-90 % rise time of the system. The worst-case eye closure was expressed with the signal wave form from receiver at to, thereby the numerical equation of the dispersion penalty was obtained. In order to derive the analysis result of the signal waveform, it was supposed that the multimode fiber system is a low-pass filter; its normalized impulse response is Gaussian form. The dispersion penalty of VSR-1 optical link was calculated by this approach. The result can be used as the reference for the worst-case VSR-1 link budget analysis.
