Methyl pheophorbide-a 1 is used as starting material. The Aldol reaction and reduction are performed,respectively,by using multi-functional active region on the five-membered exocyclic ring to synthesize chlorophyllous chlorins 2 and 3 with stereo-isomeric feature. The corresponding reaction mechanisms are proposed,and the stereo-structures of epimers are discussed and characterized. The stereoselectivity of chemical reactions on the Ering of methyl pheophorbide-a is explained and summarized.
