PIWI-interacting RNAs （piRNAs） are a new class of small RNA molecules recently discovered, belong to non-coding RNAs family. They exert their function by interacting with the PIWI subfamily of Argonaute protein, maintain the properties of germline stem cells, participate in gamete formation, fetation and other reproductive events, and also related to pathogenesis of many diseases. PIWI/piRNA pathway regulates the proliferation, migration and invasion of tumors, and is related to prognosis. In this paper, the research progress of PIWI/piRNA in biological functions and tumors is emphatically discussed.
