From September to October 2006, an investigation on rivers and freshwater crabs was carried in Jineheng, Shanxi Province. The results indicated that ： In recent years, rivers had been polluted badly in the area. The water of Lincun River, Danhe River, Bagong River, Xihe River and the downstream of Qinhe River were polluted, and some rivers like Danhe River and Bagong River smelled badly. Freshwater crabs could be sampled in rivers of Qinshui County, but disappeared in other counties. Population characteristics of freshwater crabs, such as sex ratio, density and biomass had changed with pollution of rivers.
